    Description

Offered here is a 1648 large silver coin from the United Netherlands or Lion Dollar (daalder). Known by the colonists as a so called dog dollar as the lion to them looked more like a dog than a lion. The lion dollar was one of the first silver dollar size coins used in colonial America. It was called a Daalder which is what became the U.S. dollar. So America's first silver dollar which was recognized world wide. If an early colonists had a large silver coin it could have been a lion or dog dollar. The one I offer was minted at Utrecht in the United Netherlands.  T
he legends are complete and bold. I grade it as at about EF on a nearly round planchet, but take a look and grade yourself.  Quite a nice specimen.  See the scans. U.S. shipping is free. Paypal or your check.
I am always open to offers on any of my listings. Just ask. Worst thing is I say no.
THE LEGEND ON LION DOLLARS TRANSLATES TO VARIENTS OF "THOSE WHO TRUST IN GOD ARE IMMOVABLE / SILVER MONEY OF THE NETHERLANDS CONFEDERATION."
