Austrian Solid Silver Cigarette / Card Case , Pill Box Marked SB 900
Presented is a beautiful Austrian solid silver cigarette case or card box with enamel decoration of cobalt blue with a Greek-key decoration and a delicate engraved script dedication of Paula. It is marked for Austrian silver made in 1886 – 1922 with a makers mark of what appears to be SB and a product or style mark of S828. This item is marked for 900 fine silver, American standard sterling silver is 925 fine silver, so there is slightly less silver in this alloy. I have posted a picture of my research in the photos above. It has a hinge pin lid and a great mechanical catch release opening design with elastic bands on both sides of the gold washed interior. It is in lovely condition with only some minor pin-prick dings scratches from gentle use and care. This is an excellent collector’s piece for the connoisseur of silver and boxes.
