    Description

Handsome 1835 English Sterling Silver William IV Ornate Box w Lion / Hound Feet
Presented is a superb quality antique English sterling silver covered box, dated
1835. The box is made in a very ornate and classical form, with hand chased
decoration around the sides and lid depicting various scenes of children
playing. The box rests on four feet in the form of crouched lionesses or hounds.
There are two cartouches around the sides, neither of which has ever been
    monogrammed.
This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks,
no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked beside one of the cartouches on the side, with the
English lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of
London, the duty stamp of William IV's head in profile, and the date letter U
for 1835. There is also a partially rubbed maker's mark for Edward, Edward
junior, John & William Barnard. The lion passant, date letter, duty mark,
and maker's mark are repeated on the interior, though the maker's mark is
    indistinct there as well.
    The box measures about 7 7/8 x 7 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches, LxWxH.
This piece weighs 811 grams or 28.6 regular ounces.
