    Description
A SUPERB VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER BOX WITH MAGNIFICENT CHERUB MOTIFS IN REPOUSSE FROM CARRINGTON & CO., REGENT STREET, ENGLAND, 1892 -JEWELRY, SEWING, PINCUSHION BOX
This is an absolutely magnificent English sterling silver box.  It has a hinged lid with a domed pincushion.  The box opens to reveal a beautiful purple silk tufted interior for holding jewels or sewing implements or other trinkets.  The design of the box is absolutely magnificent!!!!  It has repousse and openwork designs all around.  On the front and back two cherubs are at play, one presents a bouquet of flowers, the other plays a drum.  The workmanship of these cherubs is absolutely magnificent, they have beautiful faces and wonderful bodies.  The rest of the silver design has floral, shell, and acanthus leaf motifs.
The box is signed JBC in a quatrefoil cartouche for Carrington & Co. - John Bodman Carrington of 130 Regent Street, London, which was in business during the end of the 19th century.  Regent street is the premiere address in London for items of the highest quality and the shopping street of the Royals.  This is a very fine box!  It is in wonderful condition with no visible dents or breaks in the silver.  The box is 4 1/4 inches (11 cm) long and 3 1/8 inches (8 cm) wide and 2 3/8 inches (6cm) tall.  It is fully hallmarked with the JBC in the quatrefoil mark, and lion passant for sterling silver and the S date mark for 1892.
